Hello and thanks for looking over this pool advise site. I’m Chris Hitchins and I’ve become some what fascinated with pools and their never ending puzzles. My first “adventure” into this realm was back in early 1970’s as paint technician and an Olympic Pool when coated with the then new fangled epoxy coating.  It went yellow – a dull yellow at that. Question is why? The answer is the curing agent did not like the new heated water very much and told us so. Lesson number one,  assume nothing with any pool. 

In the last 22 plus years have been back full time in the pool industry on the resurfacing  side of aged pools mostly. The focus being in NZ, AU and also time in the USA.  Suffice to say a pool is water and though we all take water for granted every day, it’s an amazing chemical and more often than not a has a mind of its own. 

This has lead to this site where I’ve attempted to provide details of issues I see or have come across in the last 2 decades plus.  Some  the of information is written by me as a result of personal experiences and others as you can see, by other folks in this space and the issues they deal with and have to provide answers for.

Just remember your pool is a wonderful asset and to be enjoyed as much as you can.  However in reality it is a mild chemical bath ( save for natural pools). It has a mind of its own and will not tolerate being left to its own defenses. If it is,  it will come back and tell you in no uncertain ways, I’m here “dear”, look after me as you would your child or family pet, else I’ll make your life a misery. And believe me I can.  Enough said!
